How to Style Your Bedroom With Layers.

How to Style Your Bedroom With Layers.

Comfort-“a state of physical ease and freedom from pain or constraint” If you are wondering I made that up, No I’m simply stating the dictionary version. “ So what is comfort for you? I highly recommend that you determine what ‘comfort’ means to you, in regards to your bedroom and lean into that–be that luxurious. Is it luxury sheets, plush pillows, or super soft throw blankets!?”

For me, the No. 1 factor that simply makes a bedroom is the calm and comfort factor by investing in high quality bedding and being very intentional with my all-white palette. It’s important to me that the bedroom feel clean and crisp and untouched by the mess of daily life(I know all my fellow mamas can relate!)

We all have so much going on in our lives–work, family, socializing, errands and logistics–so it makes such a difference if you can make your bedroom a true sanctuary to retreat to when the day is done.

So twenty years ago, bed linens were all hidden under a bedspread. Now that they have taken center stage, it’s important not to overlook the usefulness and personality added by a mix of fabrics and cushions. There’s one rule I want to share with you all today- You should dress a bed just as would a sofa and take advantage of all the wonderful layers and patterns and sizes out there.

Let me take you further with tips for layering, for adding seasonality and how layers can really change the dynamic and narrative of the bed. First thing first let’s strip your bed completely and start fresh by adding a mattress pad on top of the mattress topper for additional comfort. When it comes to choices for bedding, both cotton and linen are the goto choices. But I really love linen beddings as it offers so much to begin with, linen is a very breathable material, very very versatile, comfortable and not only that linen is great in spring, summer but also keeps you warm in winter. So don’t be afraid to use it year-round.

Some people find them bit too scratchy, but they get softer with each wash. Per various articles thread count isn’t everything, so focus on companies that have good reputation and are known for their linens. I have heard good things about Parachute

Okay.. so keeping up with the steps next is flat sheet, did you know that traditionally flat sheets are used upside down, wondering why would you do that? Well you do that so once you do pull back you can see these nice embellishments. So next is we move on with your choice of comforter or duvet, another pro tip is pull your comforter back 1/3 of the way to leave room for pillows and shams. Now you pull back your sheet and comforter all together.

Once you have these lay-ed out the last thing is this great opportunity to add color based on the season or add texture or more embellishments with an Euro’s and additional pillow, yes you got that right this will be your lumbar pillow and toss a throw to complete the look.
